Pokémon, also known as Pocket Monsters, are fictional creatures that are central to the Pokémon franchise. Currently, Pokémon‎ GO contains 239 Pokémon, all of the Kanto Pokédex Pokémon‎ plus 88 Pokémon from Johto. They can be obtained by either catching them with a Poké Ball, by hatching an Egg, through Evolution or Raid Battles.

Some of the Pokémon are region-exclusive, which means they can only be caught or hatched in a certain region of the world. These Pokémon are: Farfetch'd (Japan), Kangaskhan (Australia), Mr. Mime (Europe), Tauros (USA), Heracross (South America), and Corsola (equator).

The update on the July 20, 2017, gave players the chance to find the legendary Pokémon Articuno and Lugia in Raid Battles. On August 1, Moltres replaced Articuno in raids.
